Freestanding

It stands on its own, with its own sides and its own front on show. Plenty of washing machines and dishwashers slide under a worktop and are still freestanding.

Built-in / integrated

It’s fitted into your kitchen units. Either a cupboard door covers the front, as on most integrated dishwashers, fridges and washing machines, or it sits inside a cabinet with only its front showing, as most built-in ovens do.

Quick check: look at the front. A cupboard door on it, or set inside a cabinet? Built-in. Its own front and sides? Freestanding.
